Where the Story Begins
Before Joy's family tradition found its way to Southern California, it began in New Zealand. One day, a neighbor told Joy she had heard on a radio program that Long Beach, California was one of the best places to go.
That simple comment stayed with her.
One morning, Joy woke up and decided she was moving to Long Beach. As a single mom with three children — two girls and one boy — she made the brave journey from New Zealand to Southern California, carrying with her her strength, her family values, her outdoor way of life, and the family traditions that shaped everything she did.
